With profound cultural heritage, there are 6 national intangible cultural heritage items, 8 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage items, and 25 traditional Chinese villages in the county. Besides, a group of famous singers such as He Jiguang as well as Song Zuying, and the renowned literary artist Peng Xueming are from here.
The Red Stone Forest Scenic Area, formed by wind and water erosion for 400 million years, is currently the only red carbonate stone forest scenic area discovered in the Cambrian period in the world.
In 2005, it was rated as a national geological park, and in 2013, it was rated as a national 4A-level scenic area and the “most beautiful geological park in China”.
The core scenic area covers an area of about 20 square kilometers. The geological relics are mainly karst red stone forests, along with canyons, water bodies, spring waterfalls, stratigraphic profiles, and paleontological fossils.
Red Stone Forest is a type of karst landform and the only red stone forest in the country. The scenic area, integrating red, beautiful, steep, unique, and ancient elements, with stone peaks, is known as the “first wonder of Wulingyuan Area”.
The Zuolong Gorge Scenic Area, influenced by long-term wing and water erosion, is located in Hongshilin Town, Guzhang County, adjacent to Furong Town of Xiangxi Prefecture. It has an average height difference of 170 meters compared to Furong Town, with the most dangerous part of 340 meters. The scenic area, with the widest part of less than 10 meters and a total length of 6.5 kilometers, is connected by pits, streams, and caves.
In autumn and winter, rocks are exposed in meandering streams as water recedes. In spring and summer, the cascading waterfalls make splashes, filling the air with chill. It’s a popular destination for outdoor exploration.
The Morong Miao Village has a splendid and colorful folk culture and art, such as unique Miao costumes and rich Miao customs, especially the Miao Sifang Drum Dance, which is renowned at home and abroad.
Xiangxi Morong Miao Village Rural Tour Co., Ltd. has been established, and folk art performance teams such as the Miao Sifang Drum Dance, Miao Silver Handmade Forging Craft Base, Wunuo skill, Miao Mountain Song, and Miao Dance have been formed.
It has won honors such as “Hometown of Miao Flower Drum”, “Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art”, “Chinese Traditional Village”, and “Ethnic Minority Characteristic Village”. It’s a big brand of Hunan Miao culture.
Zhongzhai Village is composed of five natural villages, namely, Guixi, Jirong, Laozhai, Zhongzhai, and Yangguang. It is purely populated by Miao people. There are such scenic spots as Guixi Ten-mile Canyon, Yin and Yang Mountains, and Yancao River Reservoir.
The village has profound cultural heritage, such as Miao embroidery, Miao drums, Miao songs, Miao boxing, and lion dance.

Qifeng Lake, located in the Youshui River Basin in the northern part of Guzhang County, is a provincial-level scenic area and the largest inner lake in the northwest Hunan, with a total area of 431 square kilometers, including 25 square kilometers of water surface.
The lake is dotted with small islands with winding shorelines. The lake surface is rippling with blue waves, the mountains along the lake are full of tea and fruit, and Tujia stilted buildings are built along the mountains, with high eaves and winding stone steps.
The rich and magical national culture has attracted many famous artists from ancient and modern times at home and abroad, such as Painters Huang Yongyu and Long Qinglian as well as famous Journalist and Essayist Xiao Li.
Hangwu Miao Village is located in the Niujiao Mountain of Murong Town, Guzhang County. The buildings in the village are mainly wooden stilted buildings, with chuan-dou type wooden structure. It is the only well-preserved millennia-old village in Guzhang County to this day.
The village is built along the mountain and has profound cultural heritage of the Miao ethnic group like traditional Miao architecture, clothing, silver jewelry, language, cuisine, and Wunuo culture.
